The Meloy Art and the Circle of Zoia are thrilled to invite you to The Body of Paris, a bold and uncompromising exhibition exploring the human form and the urban landscape through the eyes of four visionary artists. Presented at the iconic Place des Vosges this April, the show brings together the evocative photography of Jean-Christophe Ballot and Antoine Poupel with the powerful figurative works of Zoia Skoropadenko and Snorri Ásmundsson. A dynamic dialogue between stillness and movement, sensuality and satire, The Body of Paris is a must-see celebration of contemporary art in the heart of the city.
ABOUT
This April, The Body of Paris brings together four visionary artists in an exploration of the human form, the urban landscape, and the raw pulse of the city. The exhibition, that will be held at gallery on famous Place des Vosges, presents a compelling dialogue between photography and painting, offering an unfiltered perspective on Paris—its stillness, its sensuality, and its sheer physicality.
Jean-Christophe Ballot, known for his contemplative large-format photography, unveils The Dream of Every Tourist, a hauntingly poetic series depicting an empty Paris during the COVID lockdown. His stark, almost surreal compositions strip the city of its usual dynamism, transforming it into a dreamlike stage of quiet grandeur. In contrast, his visceral images from Rungis, the vast Parisian wholesale market, evoke the raw physicality of flesh and trade, recalling the intensity of Soutine and Rembrandt’s masterful studies of meat and mortality.
Antoine Poupel, the renowned photographer of Zingaro and Crazy Horse, introduces his signature collage-like compositions—an intoxicating blend of flowers, vegetables, and nudes that blur the boundaries between nature and desire. Alongside these works, he presents striking photographs from inside the legendary Crazy Horse cabaret and his highly sought-after Polaroid nudes, each image charged with intimacy and theatricality.
The exhibition also highlights two painters whose work challenges and redefines the representation of the body. Ukrainian artist Zoia Skoropadenko showcases TORSO, the groundbreaking series that once sent shockwaves through the halls of the Council of Europe. With its classical yet subversive approach, TORSO has captivated audiences from London to the Tokyo Art Fair, solidifying its place as one of the most significant contemporary interpretations of the human form.
Icelandic artist Snorri Ásmundsson injects the exhibition with his signature wit and audacity. His paintings—bold, humorous, and unapologetically vibrant—confront the viewer with an electric visual energy that is as provocative as it is exhilarating.
The Body of Paris is an unmissable event—a fearless and uncompromising exhibition that pushes the boundaries of contemporary art. This April, Place des Vosges becomes the stage for a bold reimagining of Paris through the lens of its most daring artists.
